ABOUT VIJAYASHRI SCHOOL

‘Vijayashri School of Harikatha’, the Paatashaala to promote the art of Harikatha was inaugurated in Feb 2020 by our revered Guru Smt. Vishaka Hari, in remembrance of her Gurus Sri Sri Anna, Sri. Lalgudi Jayaraman and her mother Smt. Vijaya Santhanam.

Harikatha is a composite art form which is a judicious mix of Fine arts - music, elements of dance and story-telling / narration, used as a medium to explain aspects of Philosophy, Religion and Moral Values impacting society at large. True to the school's motive "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER" (ज्ञानं परम गुह्यं), Vijayashri's approach is to use the art of Harikatha as a medium to impart 'Bhakthi' and 'Gnanam'. Also, promote our culture, values and Dharma, through our teaching methods and practices.

With the noble intention of spreading the cosmos with knowledge and devotion, and to take our rich culture to as many people as possible, Vijayashri operates on a "FREE SIKSHA FOR ALL" model. All are welcome to join our classes and the holistic curriculum encompasses the learning of sacred scriptures, classical music, expressive storytelling, and other related art forms aimed at instilling the values of Dharma and Bhakti in our students. Our classes are facilitated by experienced instructors and are structured to cater to all age groups and proficiency levels, ensuring a joyful and nurturing learning environment.

CLASSES AND PROGRAMMES

Balabodham (Ages 7 & Above)

Our Balabodham program is a beginner program and introduces children to slokas, namavalis, bhajans, scriptures and slowly starts their journey into the art form of Harikatha. Students also learn about stories from divine scriptures and Indian history which initiates them into the art of storytelling in an engaging way. These classes also help students appreciate our rich culture, value-systems and tradition in a fun-filled, interactive and safe environment.

Siksha & Sikshabodham

Balabodham children progress into our Siksha program under the direct tutelage of our revered guru Smt. Vishakha Hari. Siksha students also train on music, scriptures, namavalis, abhangs etc., under our 'Sikshabodham' class under our able and beloved Vijayashri instructors. Siksha program has a set of pre-requisites - good music knowledge and singing, Samskritam language basics, ability to do 'parayanam' of scriptures. Siksha batch has students from direct admissions based on a screening and also promotions from Balabodham.

Vijayashri Satsang (all age-groups)

Vijayashri Satsang is our effort to foster a community with common interests and objectives. Those who cannot join classes can join this community to get more learning resources to learn in their own pace / time. Vijayashri also provides a lot of content through the YouTube channel and social media platforms, to cater to this community. Updates on events, upcoming programs and exclusive workshops are regularly provided to the Satsang members.

Premika Samskritam

Samskritam language will be taught in this class to students of all age groups - right from beginner level to more advanced levels. Our guru Sri Sri Anna has formulated lessons for beginners which is a simple and beautiful guide to navigate and appreciate the language. Once the basics are well understood, students can easily progress to more advanced levels. 'Parayanams' of scriptures and 'Stutis' from Srimad Bhagavatham are also taught as part of this class.

Vijayashri USA/UK

Vijayashri School of Fine Arts, US & UK

Vijayashri School of Fine Arts is a non-profit entity in the US and UK and an extension of Vijayashri School of Harikatha under the able guidance of Guru Smt.Vishaka Hari. It was founded on Vijayadashami 2022 with the goal of promoting not only the art of Harikatha but also eventually all 64 fine arts of ancient India, ('Chatushashti Kala'). Classes will be conducted in-person in select locations in the US / UK, as well as online.

Vijayashri Scriptures Class For Dance

Vijayashri tutors are also well-versed in dance and Harikatha. We take classes for upcoming and budding dancers, focusing on various epics and puranas.

The idea is to provide the students a good understanding of the stories contained in our scriptures. Following this, they are familiarized with the works of famous composers, such that they can then choose appropriate songs that refer to the same episodes. It is hoped that with all this input, they will be able to express the nuances of the various rasas involved in any story through their dance with greater understanding and for a better depth of performance.
